Clinical Consultations
A clinical consultation is a meeting between a Ontario Autism Program Clinical Supervisor, Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) and the family of a client to discuss their child’s behavioural health concerns, areas for skill development. During the consultation, the BCBA will gather information about the child’s behavior, assess their current skills and abilities, and work with the caregiver to develop a treatment plan. The BCBA will also provide ongoing support and guidance to the caregiver throughout the treatment process. Overall, the goal is to provide suggestions and programming that will ultimately improve the child’s quality of life by addressing challenging behaviors and developing new skills.
During these consultations, the BCBA will work with the individual and their family to:
Assess the individual's current behavior through the use of indirect and direct assessment tools.
Develop a treatment plan based on the results of the assessment. This treatment plan will include specific goals, strategies, and objectives for addressing the individual's behavior.
Train caregivers and family members on how to implement the behavior intervention plan effectively and in a way that works naturally within the family dynamic.
Progress monitoring will occur throughout the therapeutic relationship between the family and the BCBA.
